School Rules & Routines

SAFETY

At Humbercrest, safety is a priority.  Home and School must work together to ensure student safety at all times, therefore we require up-to-date contact information, emergency contact names (family/friends). We need to be informed if alternate arrangements are made for pick-up, if students are absent, arriving late or leaving early. Please read and follow the safety rules below.

Safe Arrival, Late, Absence, Leaving Early

Our Safe Arrival line has 24-hour access: 416 394 2374.  Please leave a message at this number as soon as you know your child will be absent or late.  If arriving late, please proceed to the Main Office to obtain a late slip. If leaving early, (prior to morning or afternoon dismissal), your child must be signed-out at the Main Office by an adult. Students in Gr. 7-8 who are leaving prior to morning or afternoon dismissal must have a signed note from the parent/guardian; the Office Staff must call and make contact with the parent/guardian before the student is allowed to leave. Parents picking up students during the day should check in at the office and your child will be called down.

Building Safety: To ensure we know who is in our school at all times we ask that everyone entering the building follow our safety protocol – please identify yourself, sign-in, and pick up a visitor badge at the Main Office.

Contact Information

At the beginning of each year a contact information form goes home with the students – please ensure that form is completed and returned to the school. Whenever there is a change in address, phone numbers or emergency contact information, please call the Main Office immediately to update your child’s information.  Most of our communication goes by email. Please ensure your email address is current and active.

Accident or Injury/Illness during school day

If an accident occurs at school, the Office will call home and inform the parent. If students become ill during the school day, the Office will call home.  Parents may be asked to pick-up the students.

Allergies/Anaphylaxis/Medication

The school must be made aware of all allergies, especially ones that are life-threatening.  Medical forms are available at the Office.  The forms must be completed and submitted to the Office.  In the case of anaphylaxis, 2 current epi-pens are to be provided, one for the student to carry, the other to be kept in the Office. Any child requiring medication while at school must have it administered in the Office. Medication must be kept in the Office.  The parent/guardian must complete the proper Administration of Prescribed Medication form. School staff cannot provide or administer medication brought from home unless the proper forms are completed and clear instructions, dosage, and time of administration are provided.

Nut-Free Environment

Humbercrest is a Nut Free/Allergy Aware school.

With over 500 families in our community, the only way for us to succeed in providing a safe environment for all is with your help. Please vigilantly respect our nut free environment and watch out for one another.

Scent-Aware

Please avoid using scented products at school. We have a number of staff and students who have sensitivities, severe allergies and breathing difficulties when they come in contact with perfume, cologne, body spray, nail polish remover or hairspray.

Visiting Humbercrest?

To help keep children and staff safe and decrease unnecessary traffic in the halls, please follow the Humbercrest Visitor Check-in procedure:

  • All visitors must come to the office to check in and get a visitor badge. This includes parents and visitors for any length of time. All visitors must wear the badge while in the school.
  • If you are dropping off items like lunches, shoes, extra clothes, homework for your child, please come to the office and we will make sure your child receives the item.
  • Parents picking up students during the day should check in at the office and your child will be called down.

Police Check Required for Parent Volunteers

  • All volunteers must have a police check completed to volunteer in the classroom/school.
  • The TDBS has an expedited process to have police checks completed. Forms are available in the office and the cost is approximately $20.

Parking

Our parking lot is for staff only. Teachers are having difficulty finding a spot to park in the morning.
Parents, please use the Drop Zone to drop children off for school in the morning.
